My rewards in woodturning are received when I can take a section of a tree removed and destined to be destroyed or decomposed and through my skill, craftsmanship and artistic dedication return it to an object of art . I have chosen the classic shapes and forms as the centerpiece of my work. The pure smooth forms of the classics display the beautiful coloration and grain patterns found in natures creations. The Greek urn or Mediterranean vase, the Hawaiian calabash and the S.W. Native American pottery shapes are some of my favorites. For the future I want to continue to strive to create as close to perfect
classic shapes as possible. The process is one of careful refinement
one piece at a time. I know that perfection can never be reached but,
the paths on the way are where the rewards are found. |
